13 vintage shopping content creators to follow now on Instagram
From crafty kweens to Depop pros
Vintage isn't just about wistful throwbacks and Met Gala designer tributes. Thanks to the UK's community of genius content creators, vintage clothing has become a major way to express yourself and stand out from the crowd, as well as being – let's face it – the most sustainable way to shop. Could there be a more iconic repeat-wear win, after all?
From vintage activists who channel social change and stylists ready to feed your Daisy Jones '70s fashion obsession, to the crafty queens showing us how to rework thrifted pieces, they’re all serving their own brand of retro glam. Read: sustainable, unique, and hella inspiring.
Scroll on for our favourite modern vintage icons and prepare to crave that distinctly *unique* thrift store scent…
Onyi Moss is a filmmaker who tells gorgeous stories with retro clothes. She has created her own world of '50s and '60s chic on the ‘gram – every browse of her feed is like a trip to the cinema. And oh wow, those clothes… Some are diligently sourced vintage pieces while others are from current collections, but they’re all giving old Hollywood elegance. Obsessed.
For Jessica, vintage has become a platform for her activism. While she looks back to the 1950s for her ‘fit inspo, as a deaf and disabled queer parent she's forging a new narrative for the aesthetic of an era rife with ableism, homophobia, and misogyny. Cute dresses combined with life lessons? We are here for it.
Annie Phillips is a Great British Sewing Bee alum, winning the 2022 series, so it's no wonder upcycling and mending hacks are the key to many of her choice looks. From sourcing obscure vintage skiwear like it's a sport, to making a new top out of an old quilt, she is making sustainability look CUTE. If Sex Education had a sewing class, Annie would be the teacher.
If prairie dresses, preppy knitwear, and Americana denim are your jam, Sophia's your gal. She owns Top of The Town Vintage in Stockport, and if you’re quick you can often shop the look she's wearing on IG. Her sourcing of special '60s and '70s swag is all yours for the taking, she’ll even show you how to bring each piece bang up to date – yes, please!
Cocktail content creator Pip is not only a walking vintage mood board, but her whole home is popping with '70s statements, too. A big believer in sustainable thrifts and breathing new life into preloved fashion, Pip makes each look her own so despite the fact the clothes pre-date her birth, they feel really current. True to her distinctive personal style, even her wedding was retro goals.
Sophie could write a book on sustainable thrifting. Her feed is crammed with thoughtful, practical tips for making the switch to slow fashion and her wardrobe – an eclectic mix of eras worn in effortless style – is proof that buying second-hand is not just good for the planet and our wallets, it also makes for some wildly wearable fits.
Emma is a sustainability consultant for clothing, lifestyle, and circular brands who splits her time between the UK and Paris, so expect dreamy true vintage from all over. You’ll also see her rent, repair, and tailor special pieces. Where she does add modern to her '60s and '70s gems, she’ll share the brand's sustainability credentials upfront. Now, THAT's a style icon right there.
Repurposed vintage textiles are a vibe right now and Laura is creating shirts, dresses, shorts, and shackets in embroidered cotton, seersucker tablecloths, and even quilts. Made for a wide range of sizes, Laura's pieces manage to embrace the old-school, cottage-core charm of the thrifted materials whilst feeling super fresh. We want her ‘Harry’ shirt, like, now.
Emma not only pours her passion for vintage into the interiors she styles (case in point: her work on the @ClubJupiteruk caravan in Margate), it's lavishly heaped onto her wardrobe, too. Wherever she travels to she makes a vintage pit stop, resulting in a curated edit of eccentric garments we'd love the chance to raid. Her collection of boots alone is enough to awaken your inner '70s disco queen.
Whether she's covering travel, interiors, or fashion, Carrie Santana da Silva is a master of blending eras to create a look that's uniquely hers. Pairing vintage jackets, coats, dresses, and blouses with clothing from smaller vintage-inspired labels, her dreamlike stills deliver endless style inspo. And we stan her second-hand basket collection – issa vibe.
Not only does author and designer Elisalex make her own dresses from vintage and sustainable fabrics, she also creates sewing patterns so that all bodies can feel great in vintage styles. Her ‘Charlie’ dress serves 21st century Sofia Loren glam. Though we'd like to think a quick scroll of her feed is all we need to be able to whip up a new-old dress in a flash, in reality, we might be better off buying her book, Made To Measure, (out in October 2023) for an extra helping hand.
Another skilled sewing expert, Nerrisa favours '60s and '70s lewks. All handmade, of course, right down to her shoes – stop what you’re doing and watch her boot-making TikTok immediately. She's also leading a resurgence of Bargello, a '60s tapestry craft, which she's used to freshen up cushions, bags, and even high tops. You can catch Nerrisa at this summer's Goodwood Revival vintage festival where she's teaching sewing classes.
With two feeds to browse, Florence not only curates the grid's number one destination for prairie dresses and '90s knitwear (which is wayyy too shoppable, by the way), she also gives a BTS look at life as a vintage retailer on @florencemayvintage. It's a lifestyle we’re pinning to the inspo board, let's be honest.
Discover a whole host of vintage content creators and crafters at this year's Goodwood Revival, the immersive vintage festival held in West Sussex 8-10th September. Tickets are available now on goodwood.com
