Classic TV Show Memorabilia Sold At Auction

It seems that some people have way too much money and don't know what to do with it. At a recent auction of classic TV show memorabilia, the bar from the set of the sitcom Cheers sold for $675,000 dollars!

I found an article on Fox4News.com written by their Staff about the auction. The event took place over three days at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas. Over 4,700 people submitted bids from all around the world.

You better believe there were more classic TV show props and costumes that went to the highest bidder. So, how much would you pay for the costumes worn by Batman and Robin from the 1960's show? Yup, the ones worn by actors Adam West and Robin Ward. Well, someone paid $615,00 for those 50+-year-old rags.

According to the Fox4News.com post, the set from the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson went to the highest bidder for $215,000 bucks. A direction sign from the TV show M*A*S*H went for $150,000 dollars.

All of the items were collected by a man named James Comisar. Per the Fox4News.com article, he spent more than thirty years collecting and preserving the sets, props, and costumes from many classic television shows.

Heritage Auctions says that close to 1,000 items were sold at auction for a total of more than $5 million bucks. Wow!

So, all of this begs the question: I bought it, now what do I do with it? What does one do with the set from Cheers? That is one of my favorite all-time sitcoms, but do I want that stuff in my garage? And, will that person ever wear the costumes from the 1960's TV show Batman ?

But, I suppose, if you love something, and you feel it was part of your life, you want to own a piece of it. Especially if you have wads of cash and you don't know what to do with it.

So what was your favorite night to sit down and watch TV? Were you amped up on Thursdays for NBC's Must See TV? Or did you sit down on Fridays for ABC's TGIF? TV shows between the 80s and 90s are still considered some of the best of all time. Heck, with shows like Seinfeld, Friends, Fraiser, Golden Girls, M.A.S.H., Cheers and so many more… they’re not wrong. And what's a good list about graphic tees that give us nostalgia if I don't include Vandelay Industries. The number of people who will shout "Say Vandelay! Say Vandelay!" the second after you utter Vandelay Industries is obscene. But it speaks to the nature of Seinfeld.

You may not be able to buy property in Del Boca Vista, but you can sure grab this cool shirt from it. Honestly, name me an episode that George's father is in that isn't funny?

I love the show FRIENDS. My parents especially loved it, to the point where they sat down together every Thursday night when they were first married to watch it. The Thanksgiving episodes are my favorite, and this one in particular is amazing because it's the first time Chandler admits he loves Monica after she tries to cheer him up using this turkey head.

Speaking of FRIENDS, if you’re a diehard FRIENDS fan you’re going to want this. I feel like this is exactly the kind of shirt Central Perk would now be selling in their coffee house if they were actually real.

3rd Rock from the Sun is another amazing TV show. With the amazing cast of John Lithgow, French Stewart, Kristin Johnston, and Joseph Gordan-Levitt this show was a bizarre comedy.

Okay, M.A.S.H fans you can finally have your very own M.A.S.H. 4077th unit tee shirt.
