The going-out top of yesteryear may be making a comeback on TikTok and Instagram, but I’m here to make a case for the oversized blouse, another popular silhouette swarming social media. Unlike its body-hugging counterpart, oversized blouses are billowy and beautiful and can be styled in a variety of ways, making them an especially versatile addition to any closet. Intrigued?

We chatted with stylist and Never Fully Dressed founder Lucy Aylen, and New York-based stylist Audree Kate López about the top shirts to shop the trend, and how to style them for maximum impact. Keep reading to uncover 11 statement-making oversized blouses.

I’ve long been a fan of Never Fully Dressed, particularly the brand's Oversized Shirt, and as soon as I saw this sheer bandana version, it was in my cart and I was checking out within seconds.

"I am all-in for everything bandana right now, paired with bright colors that bring out summer and sunshine feels," says Aylen. "This one is slightly sheer so it's great to layer over swim but can also be worn smart for work with tailoring."

As far as sizing, the Never Fully Dressed Multi Bandana Oversized Shirt is sold in UK sizes 6 to 26 (US sizes 2 to 22). From a length perspective, it hits perfectly below the hips, so it pairs just as well with leggings as it does with denim or the matching Multi Bandana Mini Jaspre Skirt ($125).

Styling Tip: "If the shirt is long enough, you can rock it as a mini dress," López exclaims. "Pair it with lace-up sandals for a great summer look or cowboy boots for more coverage."

The Boden Oversized Cotton Shirt is a spring and summer staple sold in solid and striped iterations. Personally, we’re eyeing the Pink Stripe, Green Bee, and Cobalt Stripe options. Available in sizes 2 to 22, the spacious silhouette features a curved dolphin hem that's slightly longer in the back.

Styling Tip: According to Aylen, a crisp cotton oversize blouse is a must in any wardrobe. For an unexpected twist on a more casual look, she suggests pairing your oversize cotton blouse with wide-leg denim and a statement cowboy boot.

For a more casual oversized blouse silhouette, check out the Free People We The Free Summer Daydream Buttondown—one of my personal favorite spring and summer tops. I own the shirt in six colors, although there are currently 11 to choose from. Designed to be very oversized, the ultra-lightweight blouse, which is sold in sizes XS to XL, can be purchased one to two sizes down from your normal size while still offering an oversize appeal. For example, I’m normally a size large and I purchase it in a medium.

The beauty of oversized blouses is that they can be dressed up or down, making them a versatile garment in anyone's closet. That said, if you’re specifically looking for a blouse that pairs especially well with swimwear, the Solid & Striped The Dallas Tunic is a must. Styling Tip: "Pair an unbuttoned oversized blouse with a bandeau or bikini top and either cutoff shorts or linen pants," López says. "This is a great beach coverup or vacation look."

Styling Tip: "Style an oversized blouse over a mini slip dress belted at the waist, or tie the shirt at the waist and add a strappy heel or tall boots," López suggests.

To give the classic striped oversized blouse a touch more feminine personality, consider the Gap Metallic Stripe Big Shirt. It's sold in three colors in sizes XXS to XXL, and features a high-low dolphin hem.

Styling Tip: For a more casual appeal, López says to pair an oversized blouse with jeans. "Leave the shirt untucked and if it's a button-up, you can do a half tuck of one side for more definition," she says.
